Framing & Structural

Plan lumber, studs, joists, rafters, and fasteners for walls, floors, and roof structures. These tools help framers, carpenters, and DIYers calculate spans, spacing, and material quantities so every structural member is properly sized and nothing is left off the order list.

Quick Tips

  • Always check local span tables — allowable joist and rafter spans vary by species, grade, and spacing.
  • Use 16" on-center stud spacing for load-bearing walls unless your engineer specifies otherwise.
  • Factor in a 10–15% waste allowance for framing lumber to cover cuts, warped boards, and mistakes.
  • Crown all joists and rafters in the same direction before nailing to create a more level surface.
